This exceptionally rare and historically significant piece of WWII history is an original 101st Airborne D-Day +4 Battle of Carentan artifact that played a pivotal role in the D-Day invasion of Normandy France and one of the most infamous battles of the 101st Airborne who's D-Day mission was to seize Carentan from enemy forces in support of the U.S. forces landing on Utah Beach and Omaha Beach. The 101st Airborne Division, famously known as the "Screaming Eagles," made history with their heroic actions on D-Day. Their courage and determination were instrumental in the success of the operation. The 101st Airborne Division's objectives on D-Day, June 6, 1944, included: Securing causeways: The 101st Airborne Division's main objective was to secure the four causeway exits leading from Utah Beach. This was to ensure the 4th Infantry Division had an exit route from the beach and to prevent the enemy from reinforcing the beach defenses. Disrupting enemy communications: The 101st Airborne Division disrupted enemy communications. Establishing roadblocks: The 101st Airborne Division established roadblocks to slow down enemy reinforcements. Establishing a defensive line: The 101st Airborne Division established a defensive line between the beachhead and Valognes. Clearing drop zones: The 101st Airborne Division cleared the area around their drop zones. Linking up with the 82nd Airborne Division: The 101st Airborne Division linked up with the 82nd Airborne Division. Establishing bridgeheads: The 101st Airborne Division established bridgeheads across the Dove River to prepare for a drive to Carentan.
