Jay Little [Clarence Lewis Miller] was a Texan who, upon finishing high school, entered the theatrical profession and appeared on stages throughout the US. For three years he was associated with the Pasadena [CA] Playhouse. Later he went into the florist business in Beverly Hills. While in San Francisco, he met several female impersonators and became intrigued with the bizarre transformation in their personalities. He decided to write a novel about them but put it aside to write the gay pulp classic Maybe Tomorrow. The instant success of that book prompted him to pick up his first venture again and to rewrite it in its present form.
