Description: WHO'S WHO IN CIA, by Julius Mader, 1968, Berlin, German Text, First Edition, HB, DJA Cold War disinformation classic, "Who's Who in CIA" is a book written by East German journalist Julius Mader, published in 1968 under Stasi auspices and allegedly with KGB assistance. It purported to provide biographical information on roughly 3,000 active covert agents of the U.S. Central Intelligence Agency stationed around the world. Despite lacking official credentials, the book gained notoriety and included famous individuals like Bill Moyers and Lyndon Johnson. However, its reliability was questioned, with assertions that it contained both genuine CIA operatives and falsely identified individuals. The CIA responded by assisting journalist John Barron in compiling a similar book naming 1,600 alleged KGB officers, "KGB: The Secret Work of Soviet Secret Agents." The fallout from the publication included the assassination of CIA Station Chief Richard Welch and the eventual enactment of the Intelligence Identities Protection Act. This volume is a first edition featuring the original German text, all pages and fold out charts are intact, and it includes original mail-in card asking the general public to assist Mader in his research. Includes original dustcover which has small tear at base but is otherwise in good condition. Pages are yellowed with age and contain numerous marking throughout by the original owner in pen highlighting specific names - these marking do no obscure text (see photos). SKU: 241144
