The Owsley belt buckle was given as a gift to my brother from Charlie Brown, or Chuck, a legendary figure on tour for those who knew him. He was a friend of Owsley and he always wore a CB shirt. If you saw Chuck, you knew it was going to be a great show! On my first trip ever to San Francisco in September of 1994, Chuck gave a donation at the Greenpeace Booth at the Shoreline Shows we were at (our only Cali Shows) and he handed my brother this buckle as a token of thanks. Chuck also gave me my first piece of glass, also from the Greenpeace table, to which I still have today. At some point, I borrowed the buckle from my brother for a year or two and during that time I had a friend custom make the Hemp belt so now it could be worn instead of just admired. As you can see from the tape measure, the width is about 1-3/8” and from point tip to the buckle is 44” and the buckle itself is just over 2”. It’s made from thick hemp and the weave is taught and it stretches maybe only ½” or so. It’s a strong belt and because the buckle has a simple hook on the back, it’s adjustable to any just about any length up to maybe 45”. I eventually gave it back to my brother and in Sept of 2006 he returned to SF to elope with his fiancée at the SF Courthouse, and he wore the belt for the occasion. They traveled the country and did everything they could but regretfully, his wife passed away from cancer 10 years ago and my brother passed away 8 years ago from complications from a motorcycle accident. They had no children so I inherited the belt back. Between him and I it’s seen probably all 50 states and a multitude of countries. My brother was also a 100,000 HD rider and the belt traveled with him everywhere, including just about every country in Central America and the Caribbean. I’ve worn it thru Europe vacationing and at special events when I could. And now it’s time for someone else to enjoy the Spirit held within this belt.
