Description: Disneyland - Park-Used Railroad Train Wheel (Walt Disney, c. 1950s). Presented in this lot is an incredibly rare, nearly impossible-to-find item, an authentic wheel from one of Disneyland's trains. This historical piece from Disneyland is a "must-have-it!" for any train enthusiast or discerning Disney collector. This piece was originally acquired from an engineer with the Disneyland Railroad, who rescued the piece from a scrapyard. The wheel is repainted red, measures 20" x 4" and weighs a staggering 166 pounds! It's truly one of the most amazing collectible pieces we have seen. Condition is Very Fine. "Your attention please! The Disneyland Limited, now leaving for a grand circle tour of the Magic Kingdom, with stops at New Orleans Square, Mickey's Toontown, and Tomorrowland. All passengers, board!"This is an actual train wheel from the opening years of the wildly popular Disneyland Railroad attraction. The narrow-gauge railroad was inaugurated on the park's opening day, July 17, 1955. The live steam railway was constructed at a cost of $240,000 with each of the original four locomotives costing in excess of $40,000 either to build or restore. To offset construction costs, Walt Disney solicited a number of major railroads for corporate sponsorship of the attraction; Santa Fe was the only company to respond. The original four locomotives are named after former Santa Fe CEOs: C. K. Holliday, E.P. Ripley, Fred Gurley, and Ernest S. Marsh.
