Description: ARTIST: Henrik Gamst Jespersen is a well-listed Danish artist, whose works have been offered at auctions multiple times, including famous auction houses such as Bonham’s, Christie’s and Sotheby’s. He was a popular exhibitor both internationally (f.ex. in Chicago, Paris, Budapest, Bukarest and more) and in Charlottenborg. He graduated from the Royal Academy of Art in Copenhagen. Jespersen specialized in landscape studies, particularly from montane environments in Scandinavia and The Alps and/or the harsh landscapes of Western Jutland. He was part of an association of artists called “Nymindegabmalerne”. Nymindegab is situated in the Southern part of Ringkøbing bay in Western Jutland and, like Skagen, was thought to have a brilliant lighting – especially during the summer months. Jespersen went on study trips to Tirol, Italy, Norway, Germany, Sweden, Switzerland and Greece. Today many of his works can be found in various art museums in Denmark. PAINTING: Oil on canvas. The painting is a beautiful rendering of an alpine mountain path that winds its way through steep rocky terrain and with snow covered peaks hovering in the distance. The scenery is probably from the mountainous regions of Southern Europe. I’ll date the painting to somewhere between 1910-1930. Signed: Monogram: “HJ” in the lower left corner. SIZE: With frame: 79 cm/31.1" * 60 cm/23.6". Without frame: 63 cm/24.8" * 44 cm/17.3". CONDITION: The painting is in great ready-to-hang condition - no holes, tears or missing paint. The frame has minor scratches and stains.
