Description: CFH/GDM Haviland Limoges Creamer Sugar w/Lid Pink Floral Embossed Gold 1891-1900 Exquisite Decorative CFH/GDM Charles Field Haviland (Gerard, Dufraisseix & Morel), OVAL CREAMER & SUGAR w/LID, Pink Brown Yellow Green on White w/Gold on Handles, from Limoges, France, circa 1891-1900 DESCRIPTION: This features sprays of pink and yellow flowers with green and brown leaves sprinkled over the high white porcelain. The handles are heavily embossed and swirl to form a unique shape. The gold paint highlights the shape of the handles. The sugar is embossed with a swirling design on the handle of the lid. The lid sits inside the bowl with a deep flange that fits inside the bowl. See the photos. CONDITION: The condition of this decorative set is superb. We can find only one tiny manufacturing defect and very little damage. Look at the 11th photos. Find the black dot in the bottom of the creamer (which is a common dot from the ash of the coal fired kiln). Now look at the sugar to find the very tiny nick on the underside of the rim. There are no chips, other nicks, cracks, rubbings, scratches or hairlines. Please refer to the photos to see how classically beautiful this is. DIMENSIONS: The elegant oval sugar is 6 3/4" handle to handle with a diameter of 5 1/4" and a height of 6" to the top of the lid in place. The oval creamer is 5 1/4" handle to spout with a diameter of 3 3/4". Its overall height is 4 1/4". HISTORY/MARKS: Charles Field Haviland was the nephew of David Haviland. Charles Field in 1858 married Loiuse Alluaud, the granddaughter of the Alluaud porcelain family. In 1876 management of the firm was entrusted to Charles Field Haviland and the pottery’s name was changed prior to his retirement in 1881. When he retired, the pottery was sold and has passed through several parterships until present day. The partnership of Gerard, Dufaisseix & Morel took over. The whiteware mark was changed to have the GDM under the CFH. Morel ceased to be a partner in 1890. This item was manufactured by GDM (Gerard, Dufaisseix & Morel) at their Rue De Nexon pottery in Limoges, France. This is one of the successors to the CFH pottery. It has the green CFH/GDM backstamp with France written under it which came into effect with the partnership between Emile Gerard - Director, Jean-Baptiste Dufraisseix - Decorator, and Morel in 1891. This mark continued in use until 1900. This is cited in Mary Frank Gaston’s Collector’s Encyclopedia of Limoges Porcelain, 3rd edition as mark #2 for Gerard, Dufraisseix & Morel which was used in the time period 1891-1900. It also has green decorator’s mark #3 which used in the 1882-1900. This makes the time period for production 1891-1900. Please view all pictures carefully as they are part of the description.
