Description: Here is a nearly complete set of Calvin's New Testament Commentaries, published by Eerdmans in the 1960's and 70's, and edited by renowned Scottish theologians, Thomas F. Torrance and David W. Torrance. The stated purpose of this edition of John Calvin's NT commentaries is to provide more accurate translations than those of the Calvin Translation Society in the 1800's. For example, for the volume on Romans it claims that the Henry Beveridge translation of 1844 (for the CTS series) "was poorly done" (page vi), hence the need for the Ross Mackenzie translation in this newer series by the Torrance brothers. This is a hardback set, without any dusk jackets. As you can see in the photos, volume 11 is missing. The other volumes are in rather good condition, with no problems with the binding. There are no markings on the pages. A few volumes have the previous owner's name written in marker on the inside of the front board. The volumes appear to be purchased at different times, perhaps as they were being published. Some volumes have pages that are showing some signs of age, where the pages are getting more brown over time, whereas other volumes (like Romans/Thessalonians) are still entirely white with hardly any signs of aging. For all volumes, the pages are clean and unmarked.
