Description: Antique Wooden Butter Churn Cylinder Hand Crank - 3 Gallon Size - Circa 1890. Dimensions are approx. 13” x 16” x 15” tall. From the days when folks made their own butter. This churn is still in great condition. The agitator is clean and turns smoothly. Made just like a barrel with wooden staves and wide flat metal bands to both ends, it is all original. These cylinder churns were used from the 1840's until around 1900. Most country homes would have had one. A simple but efficient method for making butter, and a little less work than the dash churns. Milk was poured in through the top opening and the handle turned until the cream separated and butter was formed. The crank handle unlocks and is withdrawn, and the agitator removed through the top opening. A true piece of history!
