Christie and Wales became good friends and remained in touch for the remainder of their lives, often sending each other warm greetings on their shared birthdate. They were both born on September 15th with Christie 27 years her senior. Contains one page on Air Mail paper with the return and delivery addresses in Christie’s hand on the verso, measures 9.5 by 7.875 inches, created on November 8, 1968, and in fine condition with creasing and a small area of paper loss on the bottom border. “COMPUTERS GONE MAD SEEM AT THE BOTTOM OF A LOT OF OUR TROUBLES RESULTING IN ELECTRICAL BILLS OF SEVERAL THOUSAND POUNDS A QUARTER - AND THE THINGS THAT HAPPENS TO CALLERS YOU WOULDN’T BELIEVE! AS FOR GAS FROM THE NORTH SEA, IT APPEARS TO PARALYZE ANY HOUSEHOLD - IF IT DOESN’T EXPLODE STRAIGHT AWAY. THE WAYS OF PROGRESS ARE VERY HARD!” Christie is openly critical of computers and the North Sea oil: “What a disgrace that I only write now on Nov. 8th when I had beautiful birthday wishes on Sept. 15th. We were in Denmark at the time & as often happens things sit stacked up waiting one’s return & then you sit all muddled up. The best I can do now is to wish you a happy Xmas!!! Considering the way things are happening to our Posts over here now - I expect Xmas will be about the date you get this! Computers gone mad seem at the bottom of a lot of our troubles resulting in electrical bills of several thousand pounds a quarter - and the things that happens to callers you wouldn’t believe! As for gas from the North Sea, it appears to paralyze any household - if it doesn’t explode straight away. The ways of progress are very hard!”
